About This Event:
Changing the face of education for 68 years and honoring those who have blazed the path to giving all Americans the education they need, and that the nation needs them to have. This annual celebration raises funds to help UNCF send more young people to college and brings together over 1,400 friends and supporters of UNCF, including board members, college presidents, corporate partners, students and alumni.
At this year’s Gala, UNCF will recognize and celebrate the change that is taking place in how we prepare our young people for education to and through college and for the life they will live beyond their formal education. We will honor the men and women who have been the agents of that change—who have been “game changers”—for our children. One of the game-changers we will be honoring will be a group of Teach for America Corps Members who are UNCF-member institution alumni. They will be presented an award that pays tribute to the late Shirley Chisholm, a longtime New York congresswoman, first Black Presidential candidate and lifelong champion of education. UNCF’s President’s Award will also be presented to Lauran and Justin Tuck. The two-time Super Bowl champion New York Giant and his wife started R.U.S.H. (Read, Understand, Succeed, Hope) for Literacy in 2008 and have raised much-needed funds to provide reading materials for children in New York City and Central Alabama.
