Explore the connections between visual art and music in contemporary Black culture in MoCADA’s new exhibition, eMERGING: Visual Art & Music in a Post-Hip-Hop Era. Curated by MoCADA’s new Executive Director, James Bartlett, eMERGING addresses the artistic conversations that characterize Black art and culture in today’s world of heightened global connectivity.
eMERGING features the works of visual artists and directors Kajahl Benes, Kudzanai Chiurai, Delphine Diallo, Modou Dieng, Hassan Hajjaj, dream hampton, Pieter Hugo, Hycide, Kahlil Joseph, Terence Nance, Cinque Northern, Kambui Olajimi, Storyboard P, Ebony G. Patterson, and Hank Willis Thomas, and music by Blitz the Ambassador, Flying Lotus, Seu Jorge, Just A Band, Spoek Mathambo, THEESatisfaction, and others. eMERGING draws connections between visual art and music, but also highlights the interconnected nature of contemporary Black dance, film, literature, and culinary art through performances and events throughout the duration of the exhibition.
eMERGING will be on display at MoCADA from February 14 to May 26, 2013, and will include a variety of public programs including, concerts, film screenings, kids workshops, and more. Check out the full list of public programs.
