THE BOX THAT ROCKS: 30 Years of Video Music Box and the Rise of Hip Hop Music & Culture is an exhibition of contemporary art that celebrates the global influence of the groundbreaking television program Video Music Box, and its pioneering creator, Ralph McDaniels. Launched in 1983, Video Music Box ushered in the popularity and innovation of music videos, and propelled a new era of cultural identity, artistic innovation and entrepreneurial vision. Guest curated by Dexter Wimberly, the exhibition features photography, painting, mixed-media works, video installation, and interactive digital art that explores key elements of Video Music Box and highlights the program’s historic contribution to Hip Hop music and culture.
